[Class 107] Tar, asphalt, or the like, is heated in a tank 6, Figs. 1 and 2, by a device comprising an envelope 5 which is filled with oil and which houses a furnace 1 and the pipes 4 leading from the furnace to a chimney 3. This heating device is immersed in the material to be heated and may be inserted into the apparatus through an opening in the lower part of one side of the tank 6. The oil may be heated by a masut burner 2 to which air is supplied by a compressor driven by a motor, which motor also operates two pumps 9, 13. The pump 13 communicates by pipes 12, 12<1> with the interior of the tank 6 and serves to circulate the melted matter. The pump, the pipes and the valves 14, 14<1> in the pipes are all provided with double envelopes through which circulates the oil heated in the jacket 5. The oil is pumped by a pump 9 through a pipe 8 to the front end of the jacket through which it flows first rearwardly, then forwardly, and then passes to a pipe 11 leading to an expansion vessel 10 and back again to the pump. In a modification, only one pipe 4 arranged above the furnace is provided, the jacket 5 being of ovoid shape in cross-section. The tar is led to a distributing device, Fig. 5, comprising curved plates 18, 19, a base plate 20, and atomizers 21. Heated oil is circulated through the chamber enclosed by the plates 18, 19, and the tar is fed to the chamber enclosed by the plates 18, 20.
