Abstract

420,584. Boiler furnaces. COLLE, W. J., 14, Lower Regent Street, London. July 17, 1934, No. 20958. [Class 51 (i)] Combustion apparatus for heating a domestic boiler comprises a combustion chamber to which fuel is delivered from a hopper 4 and which contains near its base a hollow fuelspreading device 20 through which water from the boiler circulates, there being means for admitting air to the zone immediately around the spreading device and means for delivering preheated air above the combustion zone ; an outlet 11 is provided for the flames to pass to the heating chamber of the boiler. In the construction shown, air from a blower is delivered in part to a chamber 18, whence it passes by outlets 19 beneath the fuel spreading device 20 to the zone around it, and in part to a heating jacket surrounding the outlet from the combustion chamber, whence it is delivered above the fuel by a pipe 10 with downwardlydirected perforations. A water-jacket 2 surrounds the combustion chamber, and is connected by pipes 24 with the fuel-spreader 20. The lower end of the delivery shoot from the fuel hopper is provided with a pair of pivoted plates 5 the opening between which is adjusted by a vertically-movable wedge device 8 in order to control the delivery of fuel.
