Abstract
464,715. Hand trucks; draught shafts. ERICKSON, J. A. March 30, 1936, No. 9318. [Classes 108 (i) and 108 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXVIII, X, and XII] Apparatus for spraying coal, ores &c. with viscous oil, in order to prevent the formation of dust, comprises a truck 1 carrying a gear-wheel or other pump 6, an electric motor 10 and an electric heater 14 inserted in the discharge pipe. The pump draws through a pipe 9, a strainer 8 and a pipe 7 and discharges through a pipe 13, the heating chamber 14 and a pipe 16. The heating element 15 screws into one end of the chamber 14. A byepass 25, with automatic valve 26, is fitted between the discharge pipe 13 and the inlet pipe 7. In addition a permanently-open byepass 30 of small bore is arranged between the chamber 14 and the strainer 8, thus preventing carbonizing in the chamber 14 and also priming the pump. The heater 15 is controlled by a thermostat 20, which is operated by fluid in a pipe 21 of small bore. The truck is mounted on wheels 2. The handle 4 is notched to engage with alternative pins 5. A hydrocarbon oil is employed having a specific gravity of 19 to 30‹ Baume at 60‹ F., a Saybolt viscosity of 100 to 1200 at 100‹ F., and the oil is heated to a temperature of 100 to 300‹ F.
