Abstract
264,282. Owen, B. J. Nov. 20, 1925. Addition to 235,498. Air-heating furnaces.- The air heaters of the parent Specification are modified for the use of crude fuel oil by having one or more combustion chambers c communicating with or forming part of the sinuous heating pipes or tubes d and each provided at the inlet with a low-pressure burner e fed by gravity with crude oil through a pipe f from a tank e mounted on the upper cover plate of the heater, the oil being atomized by an air blast supplied through pipes g<2>. The combustion chambers are lined with fire-clay and may comprise furnace tubes extending across the compartments c<1>, c<2>, c<3>, of the heater and terminating in boxes a<1> communicating with the lower branches of the heating pipes d, or they may be formed by providing the heating pipes with enlarged lowermost branches directly connected to the pipes d by bends or elbows. The oil supply pipe f may extend through the interior of the heater, and the atomizing air blast may be produced by a fan driven from the shaft of the main fan which forces the air to be heated through the heater.
