Abstract

450,304. Vacuum cleaners. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. April 18, 1936, No. 11154. Convention date, April 19, 1935. [Class 8 (i)] For adjusting the height of the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner above the surface being cleaned, the front supporting wheels 4 are mounted on the cranked ends 8 of a shaft held against the undersides of bosses by plates 11; a lever 16 has a slot 17 fitting over a flattened portion 18 of the shaft and clamped thereto by a screw 19 ; the other end of the lever 16 has a slot 15 into which projects a pin 14 carried by a pedal 12 pivotally supported intermediate its ends on a stub shaft 13 threaded into the side wall of the casing 1. The rear supporting wheels 5 are mounted on stub shafts 6 secured in cars 7. A spring-pressed ball carried by the pedal 12 co-operates with holes 21 formed in a plate 22 carried by the cleaner casing to hold the pedal in adjusted position.
