Abstract
529,657. Suction cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. May 24, 1939, No. 15464. Convention date, June 20, 1938. [Class 8 (i)] In a suction cleaner on which a converter fitting can be inserted in a lateral opening in the main casing, a prop is attached to the converter fitting so as to tilt the cleaner and thus raise the main nozzle clear of the carpet when the converter is in use. The prop 12 is secured rigidly to the converter fitting 6 which may be secured in position by the latch 11. In an alternative form, the prop comprises a loopshaped cam 13 riveted to a flange 15a at the forward end of the sleeve 15 which is rotatably mounted on the converter fitting 14. The converter fitting is inserted with the prop in the raised position, so that the projecting lug 16 on the converter opening enters the bayonet groove 15b in the flange 15a. On rotation of the sleeve 15, the converter fitting is locked in position and the prop is turned into the operative position.
