Abstract
494,258. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. April 23, 1937, No. 11711. Convention date, Sept. 28, 1936. [Class 8 (i)] Mechanism for adjusting the height of a vacuum cleaner nozzle in which the nozzle is first lowered on to the floor surface and then raised a distance depending on the relative position of the floor wheels and the nozzle when the latter is resting on the floor surface. A pedal K<2> is connected to a lever K fulcrumed at K<1> and having a forked end engaging a pin on a bell-crank H. A lever L carrying a pawl L2 is connected to the bell-crank H by a spring L1 and pivoted at H<4>. The pawl engages teeth F<2> on a lever F pivoted at F<1> and having a cam surface engaging an abutment G on the nozzle A. Depression of the pedal K<2> lowers the nozzle until the pawl L<2> engages an abutment and releases the lever F and allows the nozzle A to fall and rest on the floor surface. The pedal K<z> is raised by a spring K<3> and the pawl again engages the ratchet and the nozzle is raised. The nozzle is connected to the undercarriage by a knife edge D pressed into engagement with the recess B<2> by a spring. Specification 494,265 is referred to.
