Abstract

511,532. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd., (Hoover Co.). Feb. 19, 1938, Nos. 5320 and 5321. [Class 8 (i)] A suction cleaner comprises a body including a nozzle and a motor-driven fan supported on wheels and propelled by a handle, in which the front and rear wheels are located behind the nozzle and mounted on fixed axes, the width of tread of each front wheel being not less than twice that of the rear wheel. The handle is pivoted to the body at such a point that the line of the force exerted by the handle meets the carpet between the front and rear wheels ; this joint may be not substantially in front of the rear wheels. The handle may be supported by a spring, which may act with a variable torque on the handle, e.g., through a cam mounted thereon.
