Abstract

470,731. Vacuum cleaners. ELECTROLUX, Ltd. (Aktiebolaget Elektrolux) Oct. 28, 1936, No. 29314. [Class 8 (i)] A vacuum cleaner comprises a floor nozzle 9 and a suction &c. chamber 19 to which a detachable auxiliary conduit can be connected for suction or blowing. The handle 33 of the machine actuates through a spindle and co-operating bevel pinions a rotatable valve 12 by which air is drawn either from the floor nozzle 9 or the auxiliary tool, and forced into the dust bag 16, or is drawn from the atmosphere and forced through the auxiliary tool. The valve has two ports co-operating with ports in its cylindrical casing, and has a flat flange or plate 24 in contact with the base of the fan chamber and having a central aperture leading to the fan and a peripheral aperture which in one position leads to the chamber 19. In this position an upright flange 15 on the plate obstructs entry to the dust bag ; in other positions, the dust bag inlet is clear. A dependent flange on the plate prevents attachment of an auxiliary tool and closes the chamber 19 when the floor tool is in use.
