Abstract

448,042. Vehicle hoods. GRIMSTON, F. B. S., Greycoats, Park Road, Haslemere, Surrey. Nov. 29, 1934, No. 34346. [Class 108 (i)] In vehicles provided with hoods or fixed tops having a movable part or extension which is adapted to be housed within the top &c., or to be extended as a canopy the extension is carried by one or more resilient guides themselves carried by the top which guides are enabled to vary their position to enable the extension to conform to the shape of the hood &c., when in its extended position. As shown the hood 1 is of the rigid type adapted to be carried by links 2 from its position over the rear end of the vehicle to its operative position above the seats. The extension or canopy 5 preferably of metal is provided with side flanges 5<1> with rearward extensions 5<11> which are housed within the side flanges 1<11> of the hood. To the canopy 5 are secured cross battens 11, 11<1>, 11<11>, the panelling after passing over battens 11<1>, 11<11> being passed under batten 11. To the battens 11, 11<1>, 11<11> are secured strips 12 to engage resilient strips G of wood or metal which are secured to battens 7, 8 on the hood and project to the front of the hood being biassed towards the top. From the position shown in Fig. 3, where the canopy 5 is secured to the windscreen 6 at the front and held by the strips 9 at the rear, the canopy is depressed to allow the batten 11<1> to pass under the hood batten 10 when the canopy can be slid to the rear to its position beneath the hood. The side flanges 5<1> of the canopy may be hinged to allow them to be turned up when the canopy is retracted.
