Abstract

240,567. Austin, Sir H. July 10, 1924. Hoods.-In motor vehicles particularly of the type in which the whole of the head may be folded down or in which the forward part is permanently covered in, while the rear portion is formed of rigid parts linked together and one part hinged to the vehicle body while the other or roof portion extends from the first part to the the permanent roof portion or to the windscreen, the portion which is hinged to the body is adapted to be swung down into a horizontal position while the roof portion is adapted to be swung down to lie beneath the other portion turning about a pair of links which connects it to the hinged portion. As shown, the rear section D is hinged to the body at E and is connected to the roof section F by links G, the section F when in the raised position abutting against the faces J, H of the permanent portion C and the rear section D respectively. A suitable fastening T is provided. When collapsed, the section F is swung round so as to lie beneath the section D and is held by a stay K and thumb-screw L. This stay K is pivotally carried by the section D and may be covered by a spring-controlled flap Q, Fig. 4, which also serves as a window guide. The links G are connected by a cranked rod S, Fig. 4.
