Abstract
445,648. Discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r elektrische Gl³hlampen; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin) April 15, 1935, No. 11587. [Class 39 (i)] A device, more particularly a high-pressure metalvapour device having an outer envelope surrounding wholly or partially an inner tube, is assembled by sealing a sealing piece into the inner tube some distance from the end and then sealing this end of the inner tube to the open end of the outer envelope. In one form a sealing piece 3 carrying electrodes 7 by means of an external pinch 4 and a spring - supported sheathed wire 5 closes the inner tube 1, and after evacuating the inner tube the free end of this tube is sealed to the outer envelope 2 at 14. The cap 16 is secured to the outer envelope by a clamp 19 and an asbestos layer 18. In a modification the lead to the lower electrode 7 is taken through the adjacent end of the inner tube and out to the cap through the seal 14. The device may be provided with auxiliary electrodes and with an incandescent filamentary ballast resistance in the space 15 which may be filled with neutral gas.
