Abstract

476,836. Discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gl³hlampen) Nov. 6, 1936, No. 30270. [Class 39 (i)] A device such as a highpressure mercury lamp having a sealed outer jacket carrying the terminals has the outer jacket closed at the terminal end by a ceramic body. As shown, a ceramic plate 8 is sealed to the lower end of a glass outer jacket 20 by enamel 27. The leads and supports 11, 12 of the discharge tube 1 enter holes 9, 10 in the plate 8 and the leadin wires 17, 18 to them are sealed in the small holes 15, 16 by enamel. The exhaust hole 21 is also sealed by enamel. A screw-cap 24 is cemented to the plate 8. In a modification, a Dewar flask outer jacket is sealed into a groove in the plate 8 and contact pins secured to the plate replace the cap 24.
