Abstract
494,787. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gl³hlampen) Aug. 18, 1937 No. 22669. [Class 39 (i)] In an electric discharge device of the type comprising a sealed envelope, of which one part is vitreous and a cup-shaped metal cap forming part of the envelope and the interior surface of which is or carries one of the main electrodes of the device, and which is sealed to the vitreous part between the electrode and the other main electrode, a sleeve of electrical insulating-material is provided within the cap, and partially covers the interior surface of the cap and extends outward far enough to protect from the discharge the seal between the cap and the vitreous part of the envelope. The caps 2 of chromenickel or chrome-iron alloy are sealed to the glass tube at 5, and each carries a glass or ceramic cup 4 and a thermionic electrode 7 adapted to be heated by the discharge only, these being secured to the cap by a screw 8 soldered thereto. The cups 4 are flared to protect the seals 5 and have diaphragms perforated at 6. A starting electrode 3 and luminescent coating 9 are provided. The tube, which is intended for high pressure working, contains a rare gas at a pressure of a few millimetres and mercury.
