Abstract
643,052. Thermionic valves. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Jan. 6, 1948, No. 406. Convention date, Jan. 10, 1947. [Class 39 (i)] The electrode 14, e.g. the anode of an electronic tube, such as a thyratron or a rectifier, is supported by means of a glass tube 25 i arranged closely around the leading-in wire 18. In Fig. 2, the upper end of the tube is preheated to form a bead 26 which is then sealed into an aperture 27 in the envelope 12, the wire 18 being formed of a relatively-rigid portion 21, of nickel-iron alloy, and a flexible portion 24 welded thereto at 23. The tube 25 may stop some distance from the anode, as shown in Fig. 2, may be extended closely to it (Fig. 4, not shown), and may be tuned in at its lower end (Fig. 5, not shown). In a modification, Fig. 7, the tube 25d is placed over the wire 18d so as to rest on a spacer 32 which is removed when the open upper end of the tube has been sealed to the envelope 12. In both arrangements a support 28 holds the anode in position whilst it is being fixed. The leads 18, 18d may consist entirely of resilient wire.
