Abstract
445,364. Securing-ring for drum &c. closures. WAGSTAFF, H., 21, Bridgewater Street, Liverpool. Oct. 24, 1934, No. 30438. [Class 21] The covers or lids of sheet-metal drums, kegs, &c. are secured by the engagement with flanges or beadings on the cover and body of a divided channel - section ring carrying a lug 6, the legs 6a of which are spread to hold it in place, which engages an aperture 7, the wire of a lead or other seal being then passed through an eye 6c in the lug. One end of the ring may be offset as shown to ensure close engagement of the ring. In a modified form the lug is engaged by a pivoted ring. An alternative form of lug is made by bending a metal strip at its middle into a loop and welding or riveting its bent-out ends to the outer face of the ring. The lug may also be pressed out of the material of the ring. According to the Provisional Specification the lug may be a rigid tongue set transversely or longitudinally and apertured for a sealing wire.
