[Class 51 (i)] A boiler furnace adapted for burning small coal or other solid fuel is fed from a hopper 5 communicating with a water-jacketed shoot 4 terminating above a water cooled fuel support 3. The hopper 5 is provided with a pivoted counterweighted door 8 which closes when the fuel in the hopper reaches the level of the door. An adjustable sleeve 7 is provided at the lower end of the shoot 4. Air for combustion is supplied by a blower 11, under the control of a thermostat 12, to an aperture 10 in the support 3 surmounted by a domed air deflector 13 provided at its periphery with apertures 14. The jacket 6 of the shoot 4 and the hollow support 3 may be connected by a pipe 3b so that water may circulate from one to the other. The jacket and support may also communicate with the boiler.
