Abstract
513,893. Refuse - consuming furnaces. AKTIESELSKABET VOLUND. Jan. 20, 1938, No. 1964. Convention date, Jan. 20, 1937. [Class 51 (i)] Refuse is fed through a shaft 4 on to a stepped grate 5, 6, 7 where it is dried and may be partly burnt and then passes through a passage 18 into a combustion chamber 2 and rotary furnace 1. Drying is effected by passing a mixture of air, drying gases and combustion products through the'grate sections 5, 6, 7 from one or more mixing chambers 16 communicating with the combustion chamber 2 by a duct 10, with the atmosphere by a passage 25 and with the drying chamber 3 by way of an opening 22, and flue 8 leading to the chimney. Fans 17 deliver the mixed gases to compartments 19, 20, 21 beneath the grate sections which are in communication by damper controlled openings. The upper grate section 5 which supports the wettest-refuse may be supplied with gases at a higher pressure. Gases also pass from the combustion chamber 2 to the drying chamber 3.
