Abstract
454,216. Boiler &c. furnaces. VANDEVELDE, A., 25, Avenue Jacques Sermon, Brussels. Dec. 22, 1934, No. 36819. [Class 51 (i)] A process of generating heat by the combustion of small fuel consists in passing the fuel from a supply inlet 3 into a bed of fuel resting on the imperforate bottom 2 of a combustion chamber 1 and at a distance from the bottom blowing into the fuel bed a stream of air under such pressure and through an aperture so shaped and disposed that clinker 6 forms immediately at said aperture and only above the air stream, thereby creating a zone of intense combustion at the lower edge of the clinker so that the clinker interposes itself (as shown by the chain lines at 6a) in the most direct path from the air inlet 5 to the surface of the fuel 4 and causes the air flow to pass down around the clinker between the clinker and the bottom of the chamber and thence upwards to the fuel surface as shown by the arrows 7. The air inlet may comprise a nozzle entering the side of the combustion chamber or as shown in the Figure may comprise a central horizontal water-cooled pipe 8 open along its underside. Specifications 403,819 and 403,821 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 403,819, 403,821, 415,290 ; and 430,382 (as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts).
