[Class 38 (ii)] In a converting arrangement employing a grid controlled discharge device, means are provided in the grid circuit to remove undesirable ripples from the grid supply. As shown, the grid transformer 6 is supplied from the A.C. circuit 1 through a phase-shifting transformer 7, the circuit including series connected inductances and condenser 9, 8 resonant at the supply frequency. To prevent distortion due to the effect of the transformer 6 and to grid current, condensers 10 are connected in parallel with the supply. In a modification in which peaky potentials are applied to the grids from a variably saturated transformer, separate primaries are provided to this transformer, each being supplied through two series connected chokes and bridged by a condenser which is connected to the inner ends of the chokes. Rejector or filter circuits may be used. In a frequency changer in which a composite grid potential is used, suppressor arrangements may be provided for each frequency.
