Abstract

639,531. Sawtooth generating circuits. MURPHY RADIO, Ltd., and HAWKINS, G. F. June 28, 1939, No. 18834. [Class 40 (vi)] In an electro-magnetic scanning circuit the internal impedance of the output valve is caused to have such a value that it can be used to damp out the unwanted high-frequency oscillations which would otherwise occur during the fly-back period of the saw-tooth. The impedance of a high impedance output valve is reduced by injecting into the grid circuit a voltage proportional to and in phase with its anode voltage by means of a small condenser connected between anode and control-grid, or by injecting a voltage derived from an auxiliary winding on the output transformer or from a potentiometer in shunt with the coils. In Fig. 2 the added condenser 13 in series with the grid coupling condenser 8 and the condersers 18 and 16 in the sawtooth generating circuit, together with the decoupling condenser 5, form a capacitive potentiometer between the anode of the output valve and H.T. negative. The grid of the output valve is tapped on to this potentiometer and the values of the capacities are, chosen to give the correct amount of negative feedback so that the output valve has the necessary internal impedance for damping during the fly-back period. The internal anode-to-grid capacity of the output valve may be of such a value that the addition of condenser 13 is unnecessary and the gain of the output stage may be adjusted by varying resistor 14. Specification 511,600 is referred to.
