Abstract
442,201. Rotary engines. VOIGT, R., 346, Schuckertdamm, Siemensstadt, Berlin. Aug. 14, 1935, No. 22933. [Class 110 (ii)] A rotary engine or pump comprises a stator d and a rotor a, which are separated by two or more sets of rollers b, C<1>-C<4> mutually in contact, the parts a, d, being eccentric to one another. In the case of a pump fluid enters a port e<1> and due to the driving action of the rotor a, and rotation of the rollers b, is conveyed to an outlet e<2>. The chamber separated by rollers c<1>, c<2> is smaller than that lying between rollers c<3>, c<4>. Fig. 4 shows another arrangement in which a forms the stator, and d the rotor. A driving pulley p is formed integrally with the latter, the whole being mounted upon a single bearing. A number of engines or pumps may have a common shaft a, the eccentricities of the units being displaced angularly for balance purposes. In the latter case, the rollers themselves form the bearing in each unit. Fig. 14 shows an arrangement of four engines, without separate bearings, driving a central machine m. The spaces between the b rollers may also be utilized as working spaces. Screw means may be used to adjust the eccentricity of a shaft or casing, to allow for wear. One set of rollers in an engine, may be formed of tubes with elastic walls which allow for expansion due to heat &c. in the engine. Labyrinth packing P may be used.
