Abstract
964,944. Reciprocating pumps; rotary pumps. HYPRO ENGINEERING Inc. Sept. 13, 1962 [May 24, 1962], No. 35027/62. Headings F1A and F1F. A pump comprises a cylindrical chamber 14, Figs. 2 and 3, housing an offset rotor 11 having rollers 62 reciprocable radially in longitudinal slots 59 which communicate alternately with inlet and outlet ports 38, 39, Fig. 4, the depth of each slot 59 being such that a cushion of liquid exists beneath each roller throughout its movement. Rollers 62 function as pistons in pumping chambers 63, and also function as vanes to pump liquid from the inlet to the outlet via the space between the rotor 11 and the casing. The outward suction strokes of rollers 62 are effected by centrifugal force. Leakage liquid collecting in spaces 51 and 26, Fig. 2, between the chamber end walls and shaft seals 49 and 22 is returned to the inlet side of the pump via passages 25 and 50, Fig. 5. Ribs 43 and 46, Fig. 4, divide the inlet and outlet ports 38 and 39 to prevent longitudinal movement of the rollers.
