Abstract

569,795. Rotary engines. STABBACK. F. L., COLLINS, J., and SAXBY, R. N. Oct. 23, 1943, No. 17470. [Class 110 (ii)] A rotary engine or pump comprises a stator 4 shaped as shown and a rotor 1 carrying spring-pressed, hinged abutments 5 which have two curved surfaces 17, 18 bearing alternately on curved surfaces 19, 20 of the stator. Working fluid is admitted through a passage 2 and exhausted through a passage 10, or vice versa. The engine may be reversed, and may be adapted to act as a pump. Stops 12 are provided on the abutments. Clearances may be provided between the abutments and the stator. Labyrinth packing grooves may be provided on the abutments, stator and rotor. The .Provisional Specification states that the member 4 may rotate, and 1 act as the stator, and that passages through the abutments allow fluid to pass to the back of them.
