439,586. Ratchet clutches. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-, 28, Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, London.-(American Chain Co., Inc. ; 929, Connecticut Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut, U.S.A.) Oct. 6, 1934, No. 28695. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Groups XI, XXII, and XL] In a chain welding machine, a hub 44 is driven by a shaft 42 through a ratchet clutch comprising a ratchet wheel 45 on the shaft 42 and a pin 46 movable radially in the hub 44 and carried by one arm of a three-armed lever pivoted to a cam 48 carried by the hub 44. When the latch 51 is withdrawn by a solenoid 54, the hub 44 rotates through 90‹, the latch 52 then withdrawing the pin 46 to stop the hub. When the latch 52 is withdrawn by solenoid 55, the shaft 22 rotates through 270‹, the latch 51 then withdrawing the pin 46. The cam 48 is engaged by a roller 57 carried by a spring pressed pivoted arm 56. The roller in sliding down the shoulders 58, 59 gives the cam a forward thrust just before the latches 51, 52 withdraw the pin, so as to facilitate its withdrawal.
