434,184. Heating feedwater. SUPERHEATER CO., 60, East 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Sengstaken, J. H.; Valley Road, Plandome, Long Island, New York, U.S.A.) March 12, 1935, No. 7733. Convention date, May 15, 1934. [Classes 64 (i) and 64 (iii)] A unit of an economizer or like tubular fluid heater consisting of serpentine tubes, arranged side by side and connected to upper and lower headers 18, 16, Fig. 1, 2, is built up of portions having two or more tube lengths 21 connected in parallel to end pieces 21<a> each having a flow area less than that of the tube lengths, and the end pieces of adjacent partions are connected by removable bends 26. In portions having three tube lengths, one tube of each portion is arranged between and above or below the other two and adjacent units are so arranged that the tubes are spaced equally in each horizontal row. The end pieces and return bends are secured together by threebolt flanges. The walls of the end-pieces may be somewhat thicker than the walls of the tube lengths. The tubes are supported at the side walls 10<a>, and the intermediate wall 10<b> in triangular spacing plates. In portions having two tube lengths, these are arranged in a horizontal plane and are staggered with relation to the lengths above and below, and at the intermediate wall the tubes are spaced by rhomboid-shaped plates 37, Fig. 5.
