Abstract
229,920. Reynolds. F. E. June 18, 1924. Water-tube boilers; supporting.- In a water-tube or flash boiler of the sectional type with the tubes of alternate actions inclined oppositely, each section has the opposite ends of its header tubes bent and extended to form the upper and lower cross tubes. The header tubes 14, 15, Fig. 3, are bent at 21, 17 to form cress tubes which join the opposite headers at 22, 18. The bottom ends of the headers are connected through restricted nipples 24 to water drums 2, 3 which are coupled by pipes 4, 5 with steam drum C, and the upper ends are connected by yielding copper pipes 6 with collectors 7, 8 opening into the drum C from which the steam passes to a superheater. The sections are mounted freely on a framework comprising vertical angles 10 and horizontal angles 11, and the top drum is supported on cross-beams 12. The tubes of the sections have extensions 40 closed by nipples 41. The superheater 27, Fig. 5, comprises an inlet header 28, the steam supply thereto being controlled by a valve 26, a number of cross-tubes 30, and a delivery header 29, steam being discharged at 31 to the engine. The superheater may be placed at either end of the drum.
