Abstract
407,136. Knitting-machines. LOMAS & REID, Ltd., Egerton Street, and COLLEDGE, G. H., 31, Weardale Road, Carrington, both in Nottingham. Nov. 5, 1932, No. 31311. [Class 74 (ii).] Patterning mechanism for selecting the needles or sinkers of a circular or other machine for reverse plating &c., comprises a drum 11 rotatable with respect to the needles and having radial grooves to receive jacks 14, 15. The jacks 15 have patterning butts 15<d> arranged thereon for engagement by a cam 22, which is movable radially of the drum, so that selected jacks 15 are depressed and are not moved outwardly by a projecting cam 18. Projected jacks 15 move their jacks 14 to a position in which they are operative upon the needles or sinkers. A cam is provided for raising all of the jacks 15 so that they may be engaged by the cam 22, and a retracting cam operable upon butts 14e is provided for returning the jacks 14 to their inner position. As applied to a circular machine for knitting hosiery and in which sinkers in one half of the needle circle have long butts, the pattern drum may be movable axially so that the jacks 14 are operative only upon the long butts and a patterned instep and plain foot are obtained.
