[Class 74 (ii)] A knitting-machine comprises the combination of patterning means for producing preferably tuck or float stitch unraised patterns in selected areas of the ground fabric and also means for patterning, e.g. by sinker-selection, other areas by producing therein a plush pile rising above one surface of the ground fabric. Two pattern drums 20, 21, which may be of the form disclosed in Specification 446,901, with tricks and co-operating bits 22, 23, act upon selector cams 26, 31, the cams 26 pivoting about a spindle 27 mounted in a ring 72. Cam followers 29, pivoting on a spindle 30 on a bracket 28, are moved by the butts on the bits 22 to operate the appropriate selector cams 26, but, by angular adjustment of the ring 72, it may be arranged that the noses of the cam followers 29 move info recesses 75 in the cams 26 and hence the latter are not operated. The selector cams 31 act directly upon the spacing jacks 37. The drum 20 is moved step-by-step by a spring-pressed pawl 63, actuated from the spindle 50, the drum 21 being similarly operated therefrom by a pawl 59. The spindle 50 is provided at its foot with a double rocker arm 66, actuated by a cam 67 rotating with the needle cylinder 32, so that it has a rocking motion. The needles are operated selectively by the raising cam 40, through the spring jacks 37 which are pressed at 48, as described in Specification 461,083, and through jacks 35. The sinkers 43 are operated selectively through the patterning mechanism above set forth and sliders 42. The cam 67 is arranged so that a change-over in pattern produced by needles and sinkers will occur in the same vertical line down the length of the fabric. One pattern unit 20, 21 and the mechanism operated thereby, serves to operate the needles of one feed and the sinkers of an adjacent feed.
