Abstract
406,370. Atomizing pyrethrum. THUM CO., O. & W., 314, Straight Avenue, Grand Rapids, Michigan, U.S.A. Aug. 26, 1932, No. 23949. Convention date, Sept. 17, 1931. [Class 69 (iii).] Pyrethrum concentrates for insecticidal purposes are heated and sprayed by directing a stream of pyrethrum into a stream or jet of steam so as to intermingle the two streams and discharge the mixture into space, the temperature of the pyrethrum being raised to approximately 195‹ F. before or upon admixture with the steam. The apparatus used comprises a reservoir 8, Fig. 2, for the pyrethrum a steam generator 4 and an atomizing head 11, shown in detail in Fig. 3. The atomizer comprises a metal head 11 of large thermal capacity receiving steam through the pipe 10 by which its temperature is raised. The steam aspirates pyrethrum through a pipe 12 and passage 18 and atomizes it in the chamber 16 from whence it is ejected through an opening 15. The vessel 4 is provided with an electric immersion heater 3 connected to contact pin 5 carried by the lid which also carries the steampipe 10.
