Abstract

252,222. Suffern, E. S., and Gasified Fuel, Ltd. Jan. 23,1925. Oil gas.-In generating gas by partial combustion of atomized liquid fuel, air under pressure is mixed with and atomizes the fuel in a space maintained at a temperature insufficient to cause reaction, whereupon the mixture is introduced into the reaction zone and the products are deflected so as to return towards and heat the incoming stream. The oil is supplied to a nozzle L surrounded by an air nozzle M set within the front wall D<1> of the generator and thereby shielded from the high temperature zone so that atomizing takes place at a temperature considerably below 600‹ C. The mixture in process of combustion travels through the generator and is deflected by the rear wall D<2>, and the products escape through an outlet D<3>. Water or steam may be mixed with the fuel, air, or gas, and the fuel and air may be preheated. A trap may be arranged at the outlet to receive any particles carried in suspension by 'the gas.
