[Class 23.] During the centrifugal drying of cakes of yarn, filaments, cord, ribbon or the like, each cake is rotated about its own axis and about an axis outside itself. The frame 11 supports ball bearings 13 which carry an annular turntable plate 20 to which a ring 21 is bolted. This ring has teeth 23 so that it can be rotated by the motor 30 through speed reducing gearing 34, 32. A number of motors 42 is mounted on the turntable 20 and each motor shaft supports a bucket or drum 51 which thus operates in a ring shaped housing 15 on supports 14 rising from the frame 11. Each bucket 51 has an insert 52 which acts as a wedge and compresses the cake 53 slightly so that it cannot turn. Brake drums 60 are mounted on the spindles of the motors 42, and the brake band 61 is spring- supported on a member 63 mounted adjustably on the supports 14. The band 61 is bent at the end to ensure smooth contact with the brake drums. The motors 42 receive current through the bus-bars 40 which extend round the frame, a sufficient distance to ensure proper wringing of the cake. When the switch 36 is closed, the motor 30 rotates the turntable 20 with the motors 42. These rotate on their own spindles also as long as they receive current from the bus-bars 40, but when they leave the bus-bars their brake drums encounter the band 61 and rotation on their own spindles is stopped while they travel along the brake band. The cakes can be replaced during this part of the working.
