Driving devices; spindle mountings. - The drum of a sanding-machine, which drum is reciprocable axially, is driven by an electric motor contained within the drum. the rotor e of the motor being secured within the drum b, and the stator d being secured on a, non-rotating spindle a upon which the drum is rotatably supported by ball &c. bearings c; the spindle may be bored for the lead-in wires f to the motor. Two or more stators and rotors may be provided within the drum. The drum is reciprocated axially with the spindle a by an eccentric pin g, driven from the drum by gearing h and engaging a slotted lever i pivoted to a fixed part of the machine; the lever is held out of engagement with the pin when reciprocation is not required.
