Abstract

588,739. Covering cores by winding. MICAFIL, Ltd. Jan. 26, 1945, No. 2116. Convention date, Jan. 26, 1944. [Class 109] [Also in Group XXII] In a ring support with circular feed for ring winding machines comprising at least three rotatable rods c capable of being swung outwards and driven by the vertical feed shaft q of the machine over gear wheels, each of the rods having a feed roller o rigidly fixed thereto with a freely rotatable supporting plate p mounted therebelow, and the rods being pressed against the ring to be wound r by a spring j, Fig. 2, the three rotatable rods are driven from the feed shaft by a common worm wheel s whose teeth lie on an arc the centre of which lies on the axis about which the rods swing, and which is in engagement with driving gear wheels u fixed to the rods. The rotatable rods c with their bearings k project through radial slots b in a cover a, fixed to the machine frame d, which houses the operating mechanism. The ends of the rods c are pivotly mounted on axles i located in bearing pockets l projecting inwardly in the cover and are held by the spring j by means of three balljointed cranks g connected at one end, above the swivel axles i, to short levers h on the rod bearings k and at the other end to a rotatable mounting f sliding around a hollow central boss e of the cover which mounting is held by the spring j through an arm m affixed thereon. The device enables the feed motion to be transmitted to the ring to be wound independently of the increase in diameter which occurs as the winding progresses. An external lever enables the rods to be swung apart for the insertion of empty rings or removal of wound rings. The rings may be wound with wire, cord or tape.
