[Class 37.] One half-wave of an alternating current is varied in accordance with one measured value and the other half-wave is varied in accordance with a second measured value, the positive and negative half-waves being supplied to separate receiving instruments. Resistances 13, 14 are connected in series with opposed rectifiers 18, 20, so that one-half wave of alternating current from a generator 10 is varied by the resistance 13 in accordance with one quantity to be measured, e.g. the effective output and the other half-wave is varied by the resistance 14 in accordance with the other quantity, e.g. the wattless output. The resistances 13, 14 are connected in parallel with each other and in series with a transmission line connected at a distant station to two indicating instruments 16, 17 in parallel circuits containing opposed rectifiers 19, 21, so that the half-wave controlled by the resistance 13 is measured on the instrument 16 and that controlled by the resistance 14 is measured on the instrument 17. A thermal or other quadratically acting instrument 15 is connected in the common transmission line and indicates the sum of the squares of the effective and wattless output, i.e, the square of the apparent output. The instruments 15, 16, 17 and the rectifiers 19, 21, may be arranged in a common casing. The rectifiers are preferably dry rectifiers. Meters or recording instruments may be employed instead of, or in addition to, indicating instruments. Instead of resistance transmitters, regulating arrangements may be employed which each adjust a current proportional to the measured value.
