Abstract

398,300. Pipe joints. ELLIOTT, J. H. and JACK, I. D., 120, Oxford Street, Glasgow. June 4, 1932, No. 15772. [Class 99 (i).] A rubber &c. device for jointing pipes comprises a first tubular part 2 adapted to be inserted in the socket or bore of a first pipe B, and a second, smaller, tubular part 3 adapted to grip a second pipe C, the parts being connected by a resilient portion 4 allowing relative movement between the pipes and the joint being maintained by the outward pressure of the first part on the inside of the first pipe and the grip of the second part on the outside of the second pipe. The first part 2 is of substantial thickness to exert the required pressure on the pipe B and its surface is ribbed to offer less resistance to compression than the body part. A flange 5 is provided on the part 2. As shown, the parts 2, 3 extend in the same direction from the connecting portion but they may extend in opposite directions, the same device being usable either way. Either or both of the parts may be tapered.
