Abstract
387,145. Opening and cleaning cotton. HETHERINGTON & SONS, Ltd., J. and HEMSLEY, L., Pollard Street, Manchester. March 3, 1932, No. 6399. [Class 120 (i).] Apparatus for opening and cleaning cotton fibres comprises a number of cylindrical openers 5, 11, 13 arranged in series so that the mass of fibres passes in a state of suspension and along a continuous path from one opener to the next and presents each side of the mass alternately to the grid bars 7, 12, 14. The openers are disposed in casings 9, 10 forming a continuous duct 8, a current of air being maintained therethrough. The dust chambers 15 within the main casing 4 are provided with vents 18 and are exhausted by a fan 17 through a pipe 16 having a regulating valve 21. The openers are rope driven and the peripheral speeds successively increase through the series.
