Abstract
382,002. Induction furnaces. HERAEUS-VACUUMSCHMELZE AKT.- GES., and ROHN, W., 8, Dammstrasse, both in Hanau-on-Main, Germany. Aug. 12, 1931, No. 22800. Convention date, Aug. 28, 1930. [Class 39 (iii).] A three-phase furnace employs pancake coils made to correspond to the shape of the smelting chamber, the axes about which the coils are wound being spaced 120‹ apart on the circumference of a circle concentric with the furnace axis. A star or triangular-shaped iron yoke may be arranged under the coils the poles of the yoke extending upwardly to the centre of the coils. Separate cooling coils are fitted over the end faces of these poles, or parts of the induction coils not supplied with current serve this purpose. Current is supplied by a transformer arranged in parallel with a synchronous machine or the current is taken direct from the mains, condensers being arranged in parallel with the furnace. The furnace may be fed from a machine driven at a higher or lower speed than that for which it is designed according to the most efficient frequency for the furnace.
