[Class 69 (ii).] The reversal of the movement of a hydraulically operated carriage of a machine is effected by means of a single rotary and axially movable valve. In one form, a valve 2, Fig. 1, when in the position shown allows liquid to pass from an inlet 3, through ducts 4, 5, 6 to move a piston 1 to the left, the exhaust passing through ducts 7, 8, 9; the valve is maintained in position by pressure acting on one end through 10, 11. When the piston 1 nears its end position, the valve is turned by action on a member 21, to bring a passage 15 into communication with a pressure inlet 18, and a passage 12 into communication with an outlet 17 ; the valve is then moved axially into its other end position, shown in Fig. 4,' so that the inlet 3 connects with the duct 7 to reverse the motion of the piston 1. In another form, a valve 102, Figs. 7 and 8, has a chamber 113 engaged by a fixed member 114 ; axial movement of the valve caused by the piston 101 at the ends of its stroke reverses connections to pressure and exhaust on opposite sides of the member 114, so that the valve is then turned to reverse the pressure and exhaust connections of the cylinder containing the piston 101.
