Abstract
497,565. Flexible-diaphragm motors; engine valves and valve-gear. AUTOGENWERK SIRIUS GES. June 18, 1938, No. 18152. Convention date, Jan. 27. [Classes 122 (ii) and 122 (iii)] [Also in Group XXII] A motor for advancing an autogenous cutting torch along the work by the oxygen used for the cutting operation comprises a cylinder 1 between the ends of which and covers 9, 10 are elastic diaphragms 7, 8 behind which oxygen is admitted so as to traverse a piston or pair of pistons 2, 3 connected by a web 4. Pivoted at 24 to the web is an arm carrying a central wedge 23 which is pressed by a spring 25 against the end of a control pin 20, which is pivoted at 22 below an elastic sealing diaphragm 21 and operates the control valve 15. The pistons operate the running wheel of the torch carriage through ratchet mechanism. The part of the oxygen which operates the pistons passes from the pipe 35 via pipes 32<1> to valve chambers 13, 14, which are alternately connected by pipes 6, 5 to the opposite ends of the cylinder. When the valve 15 is in the position shown high-pressure oxygen passes through chamber 13 into chamber 12 and moves the pistons 2, 3 to the left, oxygen from the chamber 11, which was previously used to move the piston in the reverse direction, being forced through aperture 16 into the balancing chamber 17 where it passes to the nozzle 18.
