Abstract

371,371. Casting processes. BAILEY, R. W., 20, Grange Avenue, Hale, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Jan. 20, 1931, No. 1918. [Class 83 (i).] Moulds.-In casting steel or other metal, gas is admitted to the space between the casting and mould to regulate the cooling. The gas, which is preferably admitted at the bottom of the mould, may be neutral or reducing, such as coal-gas, hydrogen, particularly during pouring or air or steam may be used particularly at a later stage. The gas may be controlled by a valve as described in Specification 360,980 and admitted to a channel 9 from which it can pass into the ingot mould 1 by radial notches 10 cut in the upper and lower edges of a ring 7.
