439,002. Casting deoxidized copper. AMERICAN METAL CO., Ltd., 61, Broadway, New York, U.S.A. Jan. 18, 1935, No. 1764. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1934. [Class 83 (i)] Moulds; mould materials.- In casting deoxidized copper containing a small amount of phosphorus or other deoxidizer, the mould is coated with a film of water before pouring. The mould is preferably kept cold, as by water passages B and is first dressed with the usual oil mixture. Water is preferably also added during casting and may be allowed to form a pool on the molten metal in the mould. Producer gas or other oxygen excluding gas may also be introduced by a pipe L. The water may be introduced in atomized form by the gas or as steam or as a spray by means of a pipe M. During casting the water may be introduced in a stream.
