Abstract
The moistening power of tars for road-making, coating &c., is increased by adding to the usual prepared and distilled tars, with or without natural or artificial bitumen, materials which contain oxycompounds of the aromatic series and hydrocarbons as well as nitrogen bases such as aromatic amines and also azocyclic compounds such as pyridine. Examples of such materials are oily products obtained by the destructive distillation of recent or fossilized animal substances, e.g. Dippel's oil, bone oil, crude shale oil and shale tar. Suitable proportions of the added materials are from 3-20 per cent by volume. A small quantity of rubber latex may be added. Road making material may be made by mixing broken stone or ballast with the treated tar in usual mixing apparatus. In an example 1000 kgs. of prepared and distilled road tar are mixed at 50 DEG C. with 150-200 kgs. of material obtained in the destructive distillation of animal substances and 1 kg. of latex.ALSO:The moistening power of tars for road-making, coating, &c. is increased by adding to the usual prepared and distilled tars, with or without natural or artificial bitumen, material which contain oxycompounds of the aromatic series and hydrocarbons as well as nitrogen bases such as aromatic amines and also azocyclic compounds such as pyridine.
