Abstract

Yarns, fibres, and fabrics of vegetable origin are bleached by a pressure boil with alkali followed by an open boil with hydrogen peroxide. Both operations are performed in an iron kier the internal surface of which has been rendered resistant to alkali by a coating of a cementitious composition containing magnesia. The arrangement is employed to prevent decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide by the surface of the kier. Specification 350,726 is referred to.
