Abstract

In printing cotton with vat dyes, an aminoanthraquinone or reduction product thereof containing oxygen, or a mixture of compounds of these types, is incorporated in the printing paste. The printing pastes may also contain anthraquinone or hydroxyanthraquinones or their reduction products containing oxygen, glycerine or other water-soluble alcohols and hydrotropic agents, as described in Specification 349,955. In examples (1) the goods are printed with a paste containing 6 : 61-dichlor-4 : 41-dimethyl-thioindigo, glycerine, 2-aminoanthraquinone, wheat starch, gum, tragacanth, potassium carbonate and sodium formaldehydesulphoxylate, dried, steamed and developed in a potassium dichromateacetic acid bath, (2) the dyestuff in the preceding example is replaced by 3 : 4 : 8 : 9-dibenzpyrene-5 : 10-quinone, pyranthrone, or the dyestuff of example 1 of U.S. Patent 1,667,848, and the 2-aminoanthraquinone by 1-aminoanthraquinone or 1 : 5-, 2 : 6-, or 1 : 8-diaminoanthraquinone, (3) one of the above-mentioned dyestuffs, or Caledon jade green, or 4 : 7 : 41 : 71-tetramethyl-5 : 51\h -dichlorthioindigo, or 6 : 61-diethoxythioindigo, is pasted with 2 : 6-diaminoanthraquinone, glycerine and urea or sodium dimethylmetanilate, the paste is concentrated and mixed with tragacanth, gum, wheat starch, glycerine, potassium carbonate, and sodium formaldehydesulphoxylate, and (4) a paste containing 5 : 7 : 51 : 71-tetrabromindigo, 2-aminoanthraquinone, and glycerine is reduced with sodium hydrosulphide and ammonia and concentrated, with or without the addition of sodium 1 : 4-diethylaniline sulphonate or hexamethylenetetramine.
