Abstract
340,371. Insulators. CORNING GLASS WORKS, Walnut Street, Corning, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Littleton, J. T. ; 31, East 5th Street, Corning, New York, U.S.A.) Nov. 11, 1929, No. 34413. Convention date, Nov. 24, 1928. [Class 36.] In order to avoid the building-up of a breakdown potential between the line connection of an insulator and the pin, the insulator surface is provided, at the head and at the pin recess, with an intimate metallic coating produced by spraying a hot insulator with the solution of a metallic salt such as stannous chloride, the insulator being afterwards baked. In the embodiment, the head 12 of a high tension insulator is formed with a cable groove 13, and an annular groove 14 in the body 11 is adapted to receive the tie wire. The insulator is formed with a shed 15 with petticoats 16, 17, and has a skirt 18. The pin hole comprises a tapered bore 19 ending in a threaded recess 20. The head 12, groove 13, and the walls of the recess 20 are sprayed while hot with a solution of a metallic salt such as stannous chloride, the insulator being then baked.
