Abstract
334,751. Walker, E. C. Oct. 11, 1929. White lead is produced by the action of corroding gases, for example, carbon dioxide and vapours of acetic acid and water, on lead buckles passing down a stack, inclined at an angle just greater than the angle of rest of the buckles, which, therefore, roll gradually along the bed. In addition, the overburden of the buckles and white lead is borne by the stack. Fig. 1 illustrates one form off apparatus which may be employed. Spherical foraminous lead buckles, Fig. 3, are fed through a hopper 4 into the top section 2. The end section 3 is provided with a closure 6 through which the corroded buckles are withdrawn, and at the interval of two sections, a cover 7 may be provided. The gases are supplied at the bottom of the stack. A coke furnace 14 supplies carbon dioxide, ,and steam and acetic acid vapours are generated from boiler 15 and pan 16 respectively by the products of combustion of the coke furnace. Valves 18, 20, 22, 23, 25 control the supplies of gases. Conveyers 29, 30 may be provided. A modified apparatus, consisting of a helicallyshaped stack is also illustrated. The number of sections of the stack is not limited.
