Abstract
328,620. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Oct. 29, 1928. Manures. - Isomorphous mixed crystals of potassium ammonium sulphate nitrate, for use as fertilizers, are obtained from ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulphate, and potassium nitrate or sulphate or both, by the methods known for making ammonium sulphate nitrate. Only two of the above constituents need be employed, the third necessary component being formed by the interaction of one of these with a further component. Other nitrogenous salts, potash salts, phosphates or several of these may be added. The potassium and ammonium salts required can be prepared during the process itself, for example from ammonia, or from potassium chloride and the desired acid. Potassium phosphate, prepared from potassium chloride and phosphoric acid, may be mixed with ammonium nitrate solution and the mixture sprayed together with solid ammonium sulphate. In examples, (1) potassium nitrate, ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulphate are added to a strong solution of ammonium nitrate, mixed crystals of potassium ammonium sulphate nitrate separate, (2) potassium sulphate and ammonium sulphate are added to a hot melt of ammonium nitrate containing some water and the mixture is sprayed a mixed fertilizer containing potassium-ammonium sulphate nitrate and potassium ammonium sulphate being obtained; (3) ammonium sulphate potassium chloride and diammonium phosphate are stirred into a hot ammonium nitrate salt containing some water, a mixed fertilizer being obtained which consists of mixed crystals of potassium-ammonium sulphate nitrate in addition to the phosphates and chlorides of potassium and ammonium.
