Abstract

315,485. Johnson, J., Y., (I. C. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). April 18, 1928. Manures.-Mixed fertilizers are obtained by treating with potassium nitrate a solution of calcium nitrate or of magnesium nitrate or of both and converting the mixture into a solid product, as by spraying or evaporation. A double salt corresponding to the formula Ca(NO3)2KNO3 3H2O may be obtained in this way. The potassium nitrate is preferably added in solid form, but may be formed in the solution by adding potassium chloride and treating with nitric acid or nitrous gases. The calcium or magnesium nitrate may be in part replaced by ammonium nitrate or urea. Phosphates may be added during the process or to the product. Dicalcium phosphate, di-ammonium phosphate, potassium phosphate, and double phosphates, such as ammonium magnesium phosphate, are mentioned in this connection. Mixtures of calcium and magnesium nitrate obtained by treating dolomite with nitric acid may be used for the solution.
