Abstract

306,103. Stockholms Superfosfat Fabriks Aktiebolag. Feb. 15, 1928, [Convention date]. Manures.-Two fertilizers, one consisting of calcium phosphate soluble in citric acid and the other of a double salt of ammonium sulphate and ammonium nitrate having the formula. (NH4)2SO4 2NH4NO3 which may contain potassium sulphate are prepared from raw phosphate or phosphatecontaining materials by treatment with a mixture of sulphuric and nitric acids, followed by treatment with ammonium carbonate or ammonia and carbon dioxide. Di- or tri-calcium phosphate in admixture with calcium carbonate is obtained as a precipitate. The liquid consists of a solution of ammonium sulphate and nitrate. The proportions of sulphuric and nitric acids used to treat the raw phosphate are arranged so that the solid salt obtained by evaporation has the formula (NH4)2SO4 2NH4NO3. To avoid decomposition of nitric acid, the treatment of the raw phosphate may be carried out in presence of alkali sulphates such as potassium or ammonium sulphate. When potassium sulphate is used, it remains in admixture with the ammonium salts in the fertilizer.
